5/14 - Breaking News! Breaking News! This Just In!

Okay, so the worst kept secret in the newest version of the late night TV saga-- that yes, Conan IS going to take over The Tonight Show next year, and that yes, former SNL-er Jimmy Fallon is going to take over for Conan on Late Night-- was confirmed Monday with an official press conference at the NBC headquarters at Rockefeller Center in New York.  Everyone had pretty heard as much for quite a while already.

Not a big story, really.  At least not to the rest of us.  But the folks at MSNBC must have thought so-- 'cause they covered it live, and billed it as BREAKING NEWS.  (See the screen capture above...)  BREAKING NEWS!  THIS JUST IN!  WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!  JIMMY FALLON TO HOST LATE NIGHT SOMETIME NEXT YEAR!  If this was E!, maybe I'd agree, but you can't really cover the REAL news stories like the earthquate in China, the cyclone in Myanmar and other events as they happen and ALSO call the Jimmy Fallon story BREAKING NEWS, can ya?  (Well, seeing as it's about one of their other networks, maybe you can... )
