6/13 - The Incredible Hulk: New Movie or 70's TV Series?
|

So the new Incredible Hulk movie opens this weekend, and according to articles I've read, unlike the 2003 Ang Lee movie version, this one is kind of a throwback to the 70's TV series that starred Bill Bixby (and, of course, Lou Ferrigno as the Hulk.). The main character is Dr. Bruce Banner (on the TV show, his name was Dr. David Bruce Banner), and he still can't let himself fly off the handle, otherwise he turns into the big green Hulk. And while the TV version was on the run from annoying reporter, Jack McGee, this Hulk is on the run from government officials. They even brought back the plaintive piano theme song!
When I was a kid, the shows I never missed-- if mom let me, that is-- were: CHIPS, Dukes of Hazard, and The Incredible Hulk. Loved it. Even had the Incredible Hulk action figure, complete with the super-arm action, activated by push buttom in the middle of his back. I didn't go see the 2003 film, mainly because even though it was closer to the actual Marvel comic version, it didn't embrace the TV version as much. I may have to go check this one out...
By the way, which actor did producers originally want in the role of Dr. David Banner on the TV series?

That's right, none other Larry Hagman. Of course, he couldn't do it because he'd landed a small role in another 70's TV series. JR Ewing... or Dr. David Banner? I think Larry made the right choice...
